NZDA promotes hunting as a lifetime outdoor activity through our Hunter National Training Scheme - this hunter training course is known as our “HUNTS” course.

Trainees receive a Training Manual book specifically written about hunting in New Zealand conditions.

We offer:

HUNTS was first launched in 1987 and has seen thousands of hunters gain the skills needed to safely and responsibly hunt big game in New Zealand.

The HUNTS course is administered by the NZDA branches and our HUNTS programme is proudly sponsored by Stoney Creek and Absolute Wilderness. The HUNTS course is delivered by branches at a local level where HUNTS Instructors teach the HUNTS syllabus under the guidance of the National Co-ordinator.

Trainees learn about hunting in New Zealand’s unique conditions and develop essential bushcraft and shooting skills for use in the outdoors.

HUNTS Instructors

HUNTS Instructors have proven competence by attaining national HUNTS training certification after undertaking a thorough assessment process. HUNTS Instructors must pass on their experience and knowledge following the hunting guidelines approved by NZDA and Fish & Game New Zealand.

For more information see the HUNTS syllabus.
